Mirages are creatures similar to Pokémon that you can catch and upgrade. This is done through a "level up" system where you earn skill points, and with each level your mirage goes up, you gain skill points. These can be used to unlock unique abilities, keeping each creature unique.
The combat system in
World of Final Fantasy Maxima takes some getting used to. You can make your own character and that of your brother or sister small and large, creating so-called "stacks." This allows you to create 4 different fighting groups (1x small brother, 1x small sister, 1x large brother, 1x large sister).
Mirages come in different sizes (S, M, L) so you can "stack" them, i.e., place them on or under yourself depending on the size you're playing with. This way, you can build a tower with yourself and 2 mirages in this order: S(mall), M(edium), L(arge).
You can't just place any mirage anywhere. Also, when they evolve, they often increase in size, requiring you to regroup.
All of this is not mandatory; you can also just deploy your mirages individually, but then you don't have the power of your "stack."
A unique and versatile combat system and a very engaging story where you learn more about yourself make this game very addictive, although you'll need to persevere and do a lot of searching and experimenting at the beginning.
You'll go through different dungeons, go on treasure hunts, and most importantly, don't forget to search for and catch all the mirages!
I have not regretted my purchase for a second because the game is very difficult to find physically.
A gem for those who love RPGs and Pokémon.
