Limited Gameplay and Disappointing Experience
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants for the Nintendo Switch is a side-scrolling beat 'em up that might pique the interest of fans of the Nickelodeon series. When I played the game, I noticed that although the port runs smoothly and the original voice actors reprise their roles, the gameplay quickly felt limited and repetitive. There are only five levels that you can complete in about 90 minutes, which for me means the game loses its appeal quite rapidly. The depth and replay value that I look for in similar games are sorely lacking here.
Unfortunately, the graphic style and sound do not contribute to the experience either. The visuals are mediocre and fail to really bring the Turtles' atmosphere to life. When I play with friends, I always hope for an immersive experience, but that was absent here. The sound is also uninspiring and adds little to the action on screen. For a game that was originally released as an arcade game in 2017, I expected more from this console port.
Even for the most dedicated fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, this game offers little value. Wrath of the Mutants feels like a missed opportunity to give the iconic Turtles the honour they deserve. If you're looking for a challenging and engaging beat 'em up, I recommend looking elsewhere. This title lacks the magic that makes a game special and remains a disappointing experience for me.
