Super duper way more than part 1!
There's a funny story in the game, where you have to build Peach's castle. Along the path to the castle, you encounter all sorts of fun characters like Toads, Piranha Plants, and a talking block. They give you really fun tasks that get progressively harder. This way, you earn money to further build the castle.
There are so many new possibilities for building your levels compared to Super Mario Maker 1. Koopa Troopa in a car, angry sun, and various bosses like all the Koopalings and Pom Pom. Different colored pipes, parachutes, Zelda sword, and so much more, making the game very enjoyable and diverse.

Now you can create your own entire world where you can add all kinds of levels. You can create levels like snowy levels with Super Mario Bros or a haunted house in Super Mario 3D World!

Game with potential for the creative or patient person.
In Super Mario Maker 2, you can of course create your own levels. If you're not very creative or just want to play, the game offers a decent single-player mode (around 8 hours of levels) made by Nintendo.
However, as a non-creator, I don't find this game very interesting. You need an Online subscription to play other people's levels. Levels created by others can be very creative, but also very bad and frustrating. Finding the right levels for your play style can be quite difficult at times. Even though the levels are generally of better quality than in Super Mario Maker 1 (because now you can dislike levels), it's still not always easy to find great levels. It often feels like a random assortment of levels, rather than a cohesive whole. And of course, it isn't, because everything revolves around individual levels.

Nintendo has added "worlds" in free updates where you can connect multiple levels together as a sort of world. It had a lot of potential, but finding good worlds is a nightmare.
That's why I actually only recommend this game for people who either don't mind alternating between good and bad levels or for creators who want to unleash their creativity.
If you don't fall into those categories and just want to play cool Mario levels, then simply get Mario 3D World or New Super Mario Bros Switch edition. Hide. Cijfer:

Fun game but can be too difficult
Super Mario Maker 2 is a fun game to play together. However, there can also be a lot of chaos.
Creating your own Super Mario levels is awesome, funny, and enjoyable. But you can also make levels that are too difficult, making it no longer fun and unbearable. So, don't play those kinds of levels unless you can handle it. Still a great game though! Cijfer:

Endless Fun
Super Mario Maker 2 is a huge upgrade from the first version. There are so many options and features in this game; you can of course create your own levels, but there's also a story mode, and you can create worlds from your levels to build your own Mario "game." It's a shame that you need an Online subscription to play other people's levels. Overall, this is an amazing game with endless fun! Cijfer:

Perfect and better than the first!
Truly a dream! Super Mario Maker 2 is truly a dream come true. How incredibly cool is it to easily create Mario levels yourself.
The first Mario Maker was already great, but this second one makes the game almost perfect with even more choices of building materials, level themes, the addition of Super Mario 3D World, bosses, and many other new things. Super Mario Maker 2 offers a wide range of choices including different level themes, enemies, bosses, materials, power-ups, and basically all the other things found in the Mario Bros. games. You can share your self-made levels online and play levels created by other people.

Super Mario Maker 2 is an amazing creative game. Definitely a delight for platform game fans. With a deep level editor offering endless choices, infinite community levels, and regular updates, it provides endless fun and inspiration.
For me, it was definitely a bit of an adjustment at the beginning, as I'm not usually into this type of game, but it completely won me over.
