Fun game but tends to repeat itself
Sonic Frontiers is an incredibly fun game with an engaging story. The game features 5 different islands for you to explore. Each island has a character trapped that you need to rescue. Additionally, the whole world is filled with puzzles and courses.

There are many levels in the game that you can play. Unfortunately, many levels are copied from other Sonic games, but they are still enjoyable to play.

In each world, you need to collect 7 Chaos Emeralds to be able to play the boss battle. These are very cool and come with awesome music!

The only downside is that each world operates in the same way. There are some small variations, but the concept remains the same.

The game surprisingly runs well on the Nintendo Switch, but performs better on the other gaming consoles it's been released on. If you own one of those, it's recommended to get the game there instead.

Open-world Sonic on Switch limited by technical issues
With Sonic Frontiers, the iconic franchise takes a new direction. For the first time, open-world gameplay is introduced. This is quite interesting for such a mega-fast character as Sonic, and it actually works quite well. Unfortunately, the experience on the Nintendo Switch is somewhat diminished due to the platform's technical limitations.

The game offers a large, expansive world to explore. It's filled with puzzles, enemies, and fast platform segments that Sonic fans will immediately recognise. The sense of speed is fantastic, especially when Sonic races through open fields. The combat has also been revamped with new moves and skills that allow for varied battles.

Sadly, the graphical quality on the Switch brings the game down. Textures are often blurry and the framerate frequently struggles. The controls can also be less precise than you'd like, which can be particularly frustrating during the platform sections.

The story is somewhat uninspired, but still enjoyable. The game mainly revolves around the freedom that the open-world structure provides. And of course, the soundtrack is fantastic, as is the case with almost all Sonic games!

Sonic Frontiers offers a bold new direction for the series, but on the Nintendo Switch, the experience is lacking. Definitely give the game a chance, preferably on another platform. If you only have a Switch, I would still recommend giving this version a go!

Very Impressive
Sonic Frontiers is currently the newest Sonic game, and quite a good one.

The controls feel great, and the extensive customization options available are a big plus. Unfortunately, the game lacks enough variety and can start to get boring after a while.

But what is most impressive about this game is how they managed to get a game designed for the PS5 running on the Nintendo Switch. To make this possible, they made the smart choice to reduce the graphics and render distance (how far you can see into the distance), so the game could run at a high framerate. This was done successfully, and the Switch version is quite playable.
