Many puzzles with a fun story In Paper Mario: The Origami King, origami is trying to take over the paper world. They do this by folding up all paper creatures and turning them evil.
One of the key components of the game are the battles with the origami creatures. In these battles, you have to move the opponents around, by sliding or rotating them, in order to group them together and attack. This makes each battle a unique puzzle. Read more...
The game has a fun story, with various characters to assist you. Even Bowser's minions help you defeat the origami.
It's an enjoyable game, suitable for all ages. The only downside is the battles, which can become a bit repetitive and lengthy after a while, although they do get progressively harder to keep it challenging. Hide. Cijfer:
8,0Great game, but not as good as its predecessors
Nintendo doesn't always see eye to eye with its fans. One of the biggest examples of this is the Paper Mario franchise. It started as an RPG, a very good RPG to be precise. Paper Mario on the 64 was a very good and unique game for its time. The game that followed, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, continued that trend and is considered the best Paper Mario game.
The next game, Super Paper Mario, started to change things a bit. More platforming, less RPG, which was already a controversial change at the time. There were already enough people who wanted Paper Mario to go back to how it was in the games before that. Read more...
Nintendo didn't listen and made a Paper Mario game so bad that it permanently sits on my top ten least favorite games list. Quite a few people, including those who could still appreciate Super Paper Mario but felt that Paper Mario: Sticker Star went a bit too far, wanted Paper Mario to return to being an RPG like in the first two games.
Nintendo didn't listen and made Paper Mario: Color Splash, a slightly better but still not very good game.
And now we finally arrive at this game, Paper Mario: The Origami King. Paper Mario: The Origami King is a good game. The story was interesting, the art style is amazing, the gameplay is quite fun, and the battles are slightly better than the previous games. Slightly better. Not more than that.
Because Paper Mario: The Origami King is still not an RPG. So instead of the turn-based battles that I personally appreciated in the first two games, there is now a strange kind of system with rings with enemies on them that you have to rotate.
The fighting is more enjoyable than Paper Mario: Sticker Star and Paper Mario: Color Splash, but still, I can't help it. Every time I find myself in another mediocre, boring, and way too easy battle, I think about how much better the game could have been if it had decent turn-based RPG battles.
Again, Paper Mario: The Origami King is a good game. But the game could have been so much better. Hide. Cijfer:
7,5Funny story and unique RPG action, but possibly too much text for younger players. Paper Mario: The Origami King isn't for everyone. I found the story funny and enjoyable, but if you're not keen on reading a lot, this isn't your game.
The action is different from what you're used to with Mario, as this is an RPG instead of a run-and-jump game. You traverse an "overworld" and when you bump into an enemy, a battle ensues. By choosing the right partner beforehand and carefully considering your attacks during the battle (don't jump on a Goomba with a spike on its head), you win the fight and grow stronger. Read more...
I loved spending long evenings exploring the game and uncovering secrets. Unfortunately, my 10-year-old son lost interest quite quickly, probably because it's a bit slow compared to traditional Mario games. However, for me, this was an enjoyable game and not too complex of an RPG.
All in all, Paper Mario: The Origami King is an interesting and entertaining experience for the Nintendo Switch, especially if you appreciate a funny story and the RPG genre. Hide. Cijfer:
9,0 Read more reviews.A fun Paper Mario game This Paper Mario game steers the series back in the right direction. The world looks very beautiful and is enjoyable to explore. There are Toads hidden everywhere that you can rescue for bonuses in battles.
The puzzles are fun and the characters are pleasant. There are also quite a few funny scenes.
The boss fights are reasonably challenging, and you have to think before you can win. Read more...
The only downside is that if you have been playing the game for a long time, the ring battle system can become a bit irritating.
A game that both young and old can enjoy. Hide.Paper Mario: The Origami King Cijfer:
