Unique RPG Experience with Charming Art Style and Strategic Gameplay
Monster Hunter Stories, originally released on the Nintendo 3DS, is now also available for the Nintendo Switch. Although this version was only released physically in Japan, it offers an interesting perspective on the Monster Hunter universe. Instead of hunting monsters, this game focuses on taming and training these creatures. You play as a "Rider," who can form a special bond with monsters, or "monsties," by collecting and hatching eggs. I personally found this aspect of the game very refreshing and different from what you would normally expect from the series.

The gameplay differs significantly from the main series and focuses on turn-based battles. The strategic combination of monsties with various skills and traits adds a fun twist to the fights. The cheerful, cartoony art style will certainly appeal to younger players, but the depth in the genes and skills system makes it challenging enough for experienced gamers. I particularly enjoyed experimenting with the different possibilities that the monsties offer.

Although the 3DS graphics have been slightly improved on the Switch, I must admit that they are not very impressive compared to modern Switch games. Nevertheless, the game still has a charming look that appeals to me. Overall, Monster Hunter Stories provides a simple yet unique RPG experience. It is perfect for those who love the Monster Hunter universe but prefer not to engage in the intense action of the main games. This game is definitely a recommendation for anyone looking for an accessible yet strategic gameplay experience on the Nintendo Switch.
