My favorite game of 2019.
The Fire Emblem series, I once thought I could never really get into it. Even after Awakening.
But then came Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and now I am a true Fire Emblem fan.

In the story, you are a person normally called Byleth (but he/she is your avatar and can be called whatever you want), and are constantly addressed by a strange young-looking girl.

Throughout the game, you will encounter three (formally four) sides of the country you live in, and you choose the side that appeals to you the most.

As a mercenary? No, as a teacher. You are a teacher at a military school, and you must choose between three clubs or "houses." Each is led by the future leader of the three sides of the country. (It's complicated, you'll find out for yourself. That's more fun anyway.)

The gameplay is classic Fire Emblem, but with some Quality of Life improvements. You can rewind time a limited number of times if you make a mistake, and when an enemy is about to attack one of your units, it is indicated. It's not difficult, but there is a special maddening difficulty to push you to your limits.

There is a lot of depth, and because you are also a teacher, you have a lot of freedom in choosing what your students will become. You can do what is normal and logical, or you can train your little magical girl to become an armored knight. I say make your own rules and break them if it's fun.

All in all, it's a great game to start with and get to know, and my personal favorite game of 2019. I went in without expectations, but I quickly fell in love with it.

And as for which house to choose? Follow your own opinion, that's the best.

A fantastic strategy game
This is the first Fire Emblem: Three Houses game I've ever played, and I must say I've become a fan because of this game. The game has a very good story, fully voiced right up to the last sentence.

Choose 1 of the 3 houses to follow 1 of the 4 available routes. The story in each route is different, and each house has something interesting that makes you wonder: what if I had chosen the other house? And then, after completing the first route, you might want to start a new route to play with a different house.

The actual battles are like previous Fire Emblem games, strategic RPGs. There is also another part to this game where you can roam around 'the monastery,' the place where most of the story takes place, and interact with the other characters to get to know them better and build friendships with them.

You take on the role of a teacher of 1 of the 3 houses and can ensure that each unit in your class acquires the exact classes and skills you need in your team.

Do you want that one character from another house in your class? Don't worry, you can invite them to change houses.

Does all this sound a bit complicated? Don't panic! The game explains everything well and is much more user-friendly for new players. You can choose to keep permadeath disabled, and if you make a mistake in the fighting part, you can also turn back time to undo your mistake.

If after all this you still can't get enough of this game, you can always buy the DLC that adds a fourth house to the game.

Fire Emblem Gameplay and Personal Experience
From my own experience, this is the first Fire Emblem game I have ever played.
There are different story routes you can take based on which house you choose. The choices you make have an impact on the story. The goal of the game is for you, as a former mercenary, to choose one of the three houses to strengthen that class.

The gameplay is strategic, resembling a bit of a chess game, but with its own twist. When starting a new game, you have the option to choose the level of difficulty. You also have the option that if a character dies during battle, you actually lose that character. If you prefer not to have this consequence, you can simply leave that option out, but for those seeking a challenge, this is a good choice.

My only downside is that the graphics don't always look great, but apart from that, the game is very entertaining, with beautifully detailed cutscenes and fun characters you can collect and recruit to your house if you want a character from another house.

For my first Fire Emblem game, I invested a lot of time in this during the pandemic. I recommend this game if you enjoy playing different game routes and applying good strategy during battles.

Fantastic gameplay with a great story
Overall, Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a great game with a well-written story. The characters really make you interested in the story and the world. What I also love is the replay value of the game; you can play through the game 4 times, 5 times with the DLC, each with their unique maps. The gameplay is enhanced with new classes and weapons, and of course, great map designs. Overall, a fantastic game if you enjoy JRPG games.

7 tips: 4 Personal tips - 3 Easter Eggs and Glitches

Easter Eggs and Glitches:
How can you gather a lot of experience points for your Dancer?
Axelmans
2186
A character with the Dancer class can use "Dance" to allow another character to perform a second action in the same turn. Each time Dance is executed, the Dancer earns experience points, up to a maximum of 10 times per battle. After this, Dance can still be used, but no more experience points will be gained. However, it is possible to earn experience points more than 10 times in the same battle. When you use the "Auto-Battle" function during a certain turn, the "Dance EXP counter" resets back to 0. After this, you can use Dance another 10 times and earn experience points again. This trick can be used multiple times per battle and makes it easy to level up your Dancer in Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

Personal tip:
How can I follow the two different routes for the Black Eagles in Fire Emblem: Three Houses?
Neleke

When you choose the Black Eagles house, there are 2 possible routes you can follow. If you don't do anything special, you'll end up on the 'Silver Snow' route, but under certain circumstances, you can find another route that's a bit easier to miss. This route is called 'Crimson Flower'.

To follow Crimson Flower, you need to have at least a C+ support level with Edelgard. Additionally, you must go into Explore Mode between 8/2 and 22/2 and seek out Edelgard. There will be a special dialogue, and you need to choose to follow her. If you don't follow her at that moment, you'll automatically switch to the Silver Snow Route.

Moreover, you need to make the right choice. In the battle 'Conflict in the Holy Tomb' from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, you must choose to protect Edelgard.

Once you've done all this, you can finally follow the Crimson Flower Route.

How can I easily recruit other students in Fire Emblem: Three Houses?
Monado Max

There will definitely be students from other houses that you want on your team, and luckily you have the option to persuade almost any student to join your house. As long as one specific stat (like attack or speed) and skill (such as sword, authority, or horse riding) of Byleth is high enough, you can bring the student you want into your own house. (You can find the required skills and stats for each student at 1:13 in the video.)

What the game doesn't tell you is that your stats and skills can be lower when you have a support with the student from the other house. From a C-support level, you can convince them with much lower stats and skills, and from a B-support level, they will almost immediately come to your house, even if you don't have the necessary stats or skills!

You might be wondering how to get a support with students you don't even have. Well, you can ask other students to help you with the mission of the month; they will assist you throughout the month and also in battles you do on the weekends. During those battles, make sure the student stays close to Byleth. Ensure that they heal each other often or start battles while standing next to each other. This way, you'll quickly be able to bring any student you want into your house! Is it a bit too confusing for you? Then take a look at the video below!

How can I recruit other students in Fire Emblem: Three Houses?
Monado Max

Here are a few more things to keep in mind when trying to recruit students from other houses in Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

- Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude will never change classes. Hubert from the Black Eagles and Dedue from the Blue Lions will also always remain loyal to their classes. So, you can only use them if you chose their own class from the start!

- If you're playing as female Byleth, Sylvain will automatically join you when you speak to him.

- You can start recruiting from chapter 2, and from chapter 12 (or chapter 11 if you chose Edelgard), it will become impossible to recruit new students.

- When exploring the Monastery, you can talk to other teachers or adults to engage in "faculty training." This will help increase Byleth's skills, making it easier to recruit your desired students. However, this does take up free time! Instead of exploring the Monastery, you can also choose to organise seminars.

Personal tip:
How can you effectively farm Weapon and Class Experience in Fire Emblem: Three Houses?
Axelmans
2186
18 jaar
Increasing Weapon Ranks and mastering Classes is incredibly important for characters to learn new abilities and combat arts in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Without farming for this, it may happen that a character does not reach S+ Rank in their Weapon type by the end of the game, or that they miss out on some useful bonuses obtained by mastering a particular Class. If the difficulty is set to Maddening, it is especially beneficial to farm as much and as quickly as possible.

A few preparations can make the process easier and/or faster:

- Spending Renown at the Saint Statues in the cathedral ensures that all your characters gain more Weapon or Class EXP per Combat scenario. Particularly the fourth bonus from the Statue of Cethleann is handy, as it doubles the Class EXP a character receives.

- For characters who need to farm a Weapon Rank, make sure you have a broken or Rusted Weapon of the respective Weapon Type. These have the lowest hit-rate (the importance of this will become clear later). This is not possible for characters who use magic; for them, farming is trickier. However, if a character only needs to farm their Class, this can be done with any Weapon type.

- One of your characters can obtain the Dancer Class by winning the White Heron Cup in Chapter 9. Dancers can allow another character to perform a second action in the same turn. This also speeds up the process for the character receiving the second action.

- There is also an Equipment item that gives a character more Weapon/Class EXP, the "Knowledge Gem." This is available twice: during the "Tales of The Red Canyon" Paralogue in a chest, and you also receive one if you protect all Crest Stones in the Chapter 11 mission.

You can farm in the following way:

1. On a free day: choose Battle.

2. Choose an Auxiliary Battle.

3. Before starting the battle, check if there is at least one enemy using white magic (indicated by an icon with a white book above the enemy). If not, retreat from the battle and start again.

4. Once step 3 is successful, check that the characters who need to farm have no adjutants, and for those who need to farm Weapon EXP, remove any abilities that give them more power/hit-rate when using the Weapon Type for which EXP needs to be farmed. Some Classes also provide certain bonuses that can hinder the farming process; switching Classes can therefore sometimes be useful if the character does not need to farm Class EXP.

5. Start the battle, focusing first on defeating all enemies except the one using white magic.

6. Now the goal is to exhaust the offensive white magic of the last enemy, the white magic user. This is easy because the attacks do not deal much damage. If the map has Forest tiles, it is handy to lure the enemy there. You do this by placing a character just within the attack range of the enemy, and then moving that character as deep into the forest as possible while remaining within the enemy's range (make sure all your other characters stay out of the enemy's reach).

7. Now the real farming can begin. The aim is to have your characters attack the enemy with the broken/Rusted Weapons; hopefully, the hit-rate is very low so that the attack misses. This ensures that the character gains Weapon EXP for the used Weapon and Class EXP while the enemy remains alive. This can now be repeated many times to gain a lot of EXP. Battles have a limit of 99 turns, so the battle must be concluded by turn 99.

8. One last note: if other characters are close to the farming character and they have support levels with them, this can also interfere with achieving the lowest possible hit-rate. It is therefore important to keep other characters as far away as possible. Finally, magic users can still farm a bit of Weapon EXP by healing other characters or performing another Assist action like "Warp."

Easter Eggs and Glitches:
How does the date-skip glitch work in Fire Emblem: Three Houses?
Axelmans
2186
There’s a glitch that allows you to replay a specific month infinitely in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. This comes with two requirements:

- The main mission of the month must not fall on the last day of that month (for example, in chapter 4, the month has 31 days, but the mission takes place on the 26th).

- Ensure that there are at least 2 weeks between the mission and the free moment when you want to execute the glitch.

Once you’re sure that both of these conditions are met, select the day of the mission on the calendar and place the cursor on "skip to date." Before you choose this option, hold down the right button on the D-pad and then select the option. You may need to try this multiple times, but the desired outcome is that the calendar cursor is now on the day after the mission. If this is the case, also check if the "events" list on the left side of the screen has disappeared. If it hasn’t, the glitch may not work. The video below explains all of this again with gameplay, which might clarify things further:
