Super relaxing and you're in charge!
I discovered Animal Crossing: New Horizons during the Corona period and I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the game. In this game, you take control of an island with super friendly fellow residents.
Some of these residents are incredibly cute! They also always come up with fun stories that unexpectedly make you laugh. The game is entirely in Dutch.

There is so much to do on the island, and the longer you play, the more possibilities you unlock. Through this game, I've also discovered other players and visited each other's islands. We've traded items and watched shooting stars together.

Very Addictive at First, Then Tapering Off
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a very extensive game with plenty to do. You can occupy yourself with catching bugs, fishing, chopping trees, picking weeds, buying items to make your house and island unique, and so much more. In the expansion, you can visit your own resort where you have to decorate houses for residents who want their holiday homes. They tell you their requirements and you receive some basic items. You can choose how much effort you put into this, much like decorating your own house. Okay, back to your own island. Or maybe take a flight to an unknown island where someone might be willing to move to your island? Back on your own turf, you can customize everything as you wish, move houses, create waterways, design your own paths, or just chat with fellow residents. At the beginning of the game, there's so much to do, but once you've unlocked everything, it becomes a bit monotonous, even though the game adjusts to the seasons and occasionally offers events like Halloween.
I've had the game for 3 years now, and to be honest, it's been collecting dust for a while. I bought the expansion, but it didn't add many extra hours of gameplay for me. I've put in around 250 hours, so it's definitely recommended for people who enjoy decorating and building something unique. The graphics are completely fine, but the loading times are a bit slow. Especially flying from one island to another takes an eternity. Cijfer:

Animal Crossing is fantastic and has so much content!
Animal Crossing: New Horizons was the reason for me to buy a Nintendo Switch. The game offers so many more options compared to its predecessors. You can completely design the island the way you want, invite the residents you desire, and there is so much more to do!
There is also a fantastic DLC. This adds a lot of content to the game. You then have a job designing houses for residents. You can choose an island, select the season, and fully decorate inside and outside the house! There is also an island where the resort planning office is located, and here you can set up a school, hospital, and café! Cijfer:
9,5Fun game but not quite what I hoped for
I waited a long time for Animal Crossing: New Horizons to finally come out, but I have to say that this is not the best Animal Crossing game in my opinion. I miss the (sometimes offensive but definitely funny) remarks from the villagers. When I talk to them now, they talk about the weather or something else boring by default, while in previous games, each had their own character. Additionally, I think the ability to gather resources and craft things is both fun and annoying. It's enjoyable to craft things yourself, but personally, I don't think this really fits with Animal Crossing. Also, I used to enjoy peacefully fishing in previous games, while here, your fishing rod breaks if you try to peacefully fill your backpack. I also have criticism about the size of the backpack. In previous games, it was part of the fun to fill up the backpack and then sell things, but in this game, your backpack just never seems to fill up. For me, as a fan of the Animal Crossing franchise, this was not the sequel I was hoping for, but if you are new to Animal Crossing, I think you will really enjoy this game! Relaxing game with charming island setting, but limited multiplayer options
The latest game from Animal Crossing, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, has been released. I've played it and I really enjoyed it. The first one to enter the island gets the chance to determine the name of the island, which I found to be a nice addition. One of the advantages of the game is that you can play it with multiple people. Not all at once, but multiple people can be on one island, which provided a lot of fun for us on the couch.
What I also really liked is that eventually you can build and decorate your own house. It truly feels like your own little spot in the game. However, there are also downsides. It's nice that you can play together, but I expected more from it. For example, the player joining cannot pick things up, use their NookPhone, or check their inventory. I found that quite annoying because it really limits what you can do together.
Overall, I find Animal Crossing: New Horizons to be a very relaxing game. The pace is laid-back and the atmosphere is delightfully serene. Definitely a recommendation for anyone looking for a calm and enjoyable gaming experience. Cijfer:

- You can customize your entire town and be creative with the appearance of your island. You can now place your items on your island, which previously could only be done in your house. Additionally, you can now build roads, hills, waterfalls, and ponds.
- You can choose where your villagers live, whereas before this was not an option and houses would appear where you didn't want them.
- The game is available in Dutch.
- You can now request songs from K.K. Slider by asking him which song you want to hear. You can even type in the song yourself on the screen.
- On Harv's island, you can encounter familiar Animal Crossing characters.
- You can customize your own villager's appearance at any time during the game. Previously, your villager's eyes were determined by the questions you answered to Rover at the beginning of the game.
- There is a new feature where you can craft DIYs.
Cons:
- Villagers have repetitive and boring dialogues that can quickly become tedious. In older games, villagers had more unique and funny dialogues, making each interaction different. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, after clicking a few times, you'll hear the same dialogue about the weather, or what your villager is wearing, etc. Additionally, characters are less original as they share the same dialogues based on personality types.
- There are no mini-games currently available since the game was quickly released during the pandemic period. Updates are still being released for the game. The only mini-game available at the moment is the stretching exercises you can do with your villagers at the resident services building.
- While you're busy editing your house, villagers can just walk in without an appointment.
Overall, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is still a fun game where you can be very creative. I highly recommend this game if you enjoy peacefully designing your island and expanding your collection of fish and insects in the museum. Hide. Cijfer:
